Physical pollution is the most obvious type. Solid, liquid, and dissolved materials that harm marine organisms or halter marine ecosystems are included in physical pollution. There are different types of reasons of how water pollution is caused. Farmers spray their crops with a chemical called pesticide to kill insects. The chemicals can seep into groundwater.

Oil well blowouts, tanker spills, and inland disposal of oil are some human sources that contaminate the ocean. About half of the oil that contaminates the ocean is caused by human sources. People dump food, paper cups, paper, plastic, aluminum foil, glass, and even bikes into oceans, rivers, and ponds. Factories dump huge amounts of waste into rivers and oceans.

The Point Loma Water Treatment plant spills 180 million gallons a day of partially treated sewage 4.5 miles out into the ocean by pipes. Storm drains oil, gas, brake dust, coffee cups, soda bottles, and pet excrement, into San Diego's surf breaks each time it rains. Several people die and get diseases from water pollution. It is the same way with animals and birds.
